Hiking to the Soiernspitze

In my vacation in early August, 2014, and my brother went hiking in the mountains for two days. The first ascent was to our first night quartier, the Soiernhaus near Mittenwald, Germany. This was an enjoyable, three hours hike with around 1000m difference in altitude.

When we arrived at the alpine hut we drank a fresh buttermilk first, ate a Kaiserschmarrn and then chilled in the sun at the lake near the hut until it was six o’clock and time for a dinner…

The next day we started early (7:30 a.m.) to climb the Soiernspitze, another 700m higher. Not much but the difficult way uphill and the predicted thunderstorms in the early afternoon let us wake up early. Freshly recovered from the day before we started walking and just saw a salamander on our way.

Arrived on the peak after a short rain shower this amazing cloud spectacle has been shown to us. These are just some impressions of this unique atomsphere there before our walk back 1500m down and around 10km long back to the village from which, after a short Pizza stop, we got back to Munich with the train…
